Vision Qwest Solutions – My Road Trip
When I first re-vamped my website, one of the things that were very important to me was to be "true" to me and true to the readers of the blog. Being in this place was not an instant revelation. I am layered with "years" of me being me, and with years of living my life lessons, and with "years” of finding and understanding me in this beautiful world that we live in. These interactions are akin to a road trip - my personal road trip to my personal discovery and understanding of me; my nosce te ipsim - to know thyself.
I am 52 years old as I pen this blog. The journey has been wonderful. To minimize the risk of being boring, I will surmise to say that my youth was filled with family values, music, dance, band, tennis, writing, singing, cheerleading, defining moments in between, and knowing what was expected of me from my parents - to be, to learn, and to understand and embrace the importance of people, people interactions, and individuality; all learned from my life under my pecan tree.
I share these ideals and my life learning on my poetry blog, http://mypecantree.com. It is important to mention the poetry blog here, because it is with this dual site, that I share the totality of my being - the meshing of my vocation and my avocation which I embrace as the "Total Sum of Me" and my understanding of life in terms of how it manifest in every aspect of ones life. (Read this blog post as well as my poetry on http://blog.mypecantree.com.) Remember, I am embracing my total being. This revelation is not by chance. Cycles of life, transition periods, and periods of reflection all lend itself to me going through this ritual of understanding where I want to be in my spiritually matured place. Loss of both parents, a house fire, an aneurysm and other life experiences surely come into play when we talk about defining an individual. And yes, these were my experiences. And yes, they have determined my outlook on life. My experiences under the pecan tree - meaning my prideful boast of observing how my father talked with people, embraced people, and shared his wisdom, coupled with my own personal experiences has established the foundation for my outlook on life:
- Understanding "self" is critical to personal and professional success.
- Understanding and embracing life experiences is a major determinant in what we achieve in life and how we achieve it.
- Understanding the positive and negative impact of our experiences determine how we truly relate to people, professionally and personally.
- Understanding that we continually evolve is critical to understanding and finding our "true self".
I have been on this "road trip" for my numbered years in an effort to truly understand my "purpose" and to be who I am in totality and with my communion with whom "God" has intended me to be.
This path has been an ongoing evolution and it is from this evolution and my defining moments, my being, and the course of my professional career that I feel centered. I call this phase one of duality and affinity for me. My duality - I have come to understand that my love for writing poetry and my love for working with and understanding human dynamics is what defines me. For all of my professional life, I have utilized these skill sets in combination; whether it be counseling people to help them to determine their career choices, recruiting, helping to determine professional development strategies, minimizing employee issues in the work place, one-on-one communications with employees who needed an ear, motivating, hugs, genuinely connecting with people, writing business communications, developing marketing strategies, designing training programs, challenging a thought process, and embracing the nature of life as I reflect in my poetry. The duality is that I choose not to separate the two. The affinity is that I embrace them both as I move forward to the next phase of my life.
As we take this journey together, please consider what personal duality and affinity means to you.
I am looking forward to sharing our stories.
